The artist has handed over the full amount of his £25,000 honor prize money to the MVT, which works to preserve the United Kingdom's grassroots live music spots.

He was awarded the award on October 16 as his latest record his work was chosen as the top album of the previous year.

He has opted to donate the funds to the trust, in acknowledgment of the vital role local spots had in his initial steps.

"I personally wouldn't be doing what I am doing today if it wasn't for all the gigs I performed around the region, and elsewhere, when I was beginning," stated Fender. "These spaces are iconic, but they are struggling."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly 16 percent of the total UK scene.

Over the past year, major artists such as Pulp, Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all aided the trust in its efforts to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which goes to help local stages.

Fender also joined in, raising in excess of £100,000 on his live tour to help thirty-eight small stages across Britain.

These funds supported locations that were facing potential shutdown due to challenges stemming from floods, fire incidents and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, legal disputes and noise complaints.

Other venues were granted monetary aid in improving infrastructure and gear that directly benefitted artists and audiences.

"The idea that revenue from performances in large arenas backs the independent spots, where it kicks off for musicians like me, is just logical," Fender has said.

Fender is far from the only musician to donate his honor winnings to charitable organizations.

Back when they earned the award in the mid-90s for their record the album, lead singer the singer announced that the band would donate their cash to the charity War Child.

That year, artist the artist divided her prize among multiple good causes, including the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"And I contributed a £1,000 to the center, to their gymnastics class, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they required better apparatus," Ms Dynamite shared with the media.

Two years ago, the band gave their winnings to the local youth club that nurtured their band, in addition to other independent music bodies.

Also winners that year the group contributed their award to a charity for MS after a friend was identified with the condition.

"Winning was sufficient," said singer Small. "The cash was the extra but we could do without the bonus, because we had the honor. So our success impacted the lives of others."

In the past week, the MVT shared it had protected several small stages in the South East, by transferring them to public stewardship.

The first in the city and The Croft in that location were bought under the public acquisition program, which is backed by Arts Council England and music fans who acquire "shares" in the properties.
